Three would-be car thieves caught red-handed in Centurion

"Due to the recklessness of the driver, they managed to roll their vehicle as they were trying to flee."

Several security companies and the police arrested three suspects after they tried to steal a car that was parked outside a house in Wierdapark on Monday.

The men tried to steal the car when the owner went inside the house to fetch something, according to Monitor Net spokesperson JP Le Roux.

“When he got back to his car, he saw the men trying to break into it.

“The suspects ran to their car and sped off. The owner of the vehicle and a member of the public gave chase. The member of the public informed us of what was happening. We were in cellphone contact with him the whole time.”

Several security company members and SAPS officers were placed at certain points in the area to stop the vehicle.

Le Roux said the suspects’ vehicle overturned just as they were about to be stopped.

“Due to the recklessness of the driver, they managed to roll their vehicle.

“The security company members arrested two suspects right away while the third suspect ran off into a nearby property, where he was also arrested by security and CPF members.”

He said some of the suspects were injured and were taken to the hospital where they are under police guard.

The vehicle used in the crime was seized, and car-breaking implements and devices were found.

“It was a great effort and teamwork by security companies and police.”
