Every year, millions of people make New Year’s resolutions. Most of them break these within the first week of the new year. Is there hope? Yes!

What you need to do to achieve your New Year’s resolutions is really simple and almost anyone can achieve theirs with the following tips:

1. Be Realistic Look, unless you win the lotto, you’re unlikely to become a millionaire in three months. Set realistic resolutions that you will be able to achieve within a set period of time.

2. Keep it simple Set simple and concise resolutions. Resolutions that you can achieve easily are less likely to be broken.

3. Get support Have a support structure. Surround yourself with people who will add as positive reinforcement. For instance, you cannot hang around your smoker friends if your resolution is to quit smoking. Also, second-hand smoke is dangerous.

4. Don’t give up Listen, slip-ups happen. But do not let that discourage you. Don’t be hard on yourself for one minor mistake. Get up and get on with your resolutions.

5. Choose carefully The key to sticking to your resolutions is keeping it simple and making sure that the resolution you make is something you can actually do.

Don’t give up burgers if you live next to a Burger King and don’t have any self-restraint.
