Police address learners on safety

Safety talks were held at the school premises by the local police.

Mamelodi East police members visited the grade 7 learners of Boikgantsho primary school and addressed learners on safety measures.

The visit to the school is part of an ongoing annual back-to-school campaign by police visiting different schools in Mamelodi.

Police spokesperson, constable Lethabo Mashilaone said the programme runs throughout the year visiting different schools addressing different issues affecting schools and learners.

The aim of the visit was to encourage learners to work hard and make sure everything was in order at the school premises.

Mashiloane said he was proud of the school because they never had any challenges there.

Among the police were the crime prevention unit and communication and they addressed the learners about discipline, bullying, gangsterism, possession of drugs, possession of unlicenced firearms, dangerous weapons and sexual offences.

They encouraged learners to keep up the good work and also encouraged those who did not perform well not to give up.

“The police made sure the security is up to date at the school and had talks with the learners about safety. They also encouraged the learners to take their education very seriously as it will help them in the future,” he said.

The police also advised the learners to always walk in groups and avoid walking home alone especially in isolated areas.

The school appreciated the relationship that the police have with the school.

Learners further pledged to perform very well and respect the teachers and parents.
