A Moot resident is still in an induced coma after he was assaulted by unknown men in front of a hardware store in Rietfontein on Saturday, January 15.
Jaco Seeger (51) got into his vehicle around 21:30 after he left a local pub in the Moot, when two men attacked him while he was already in his vehicle.
Seeger was rushed to Netcare Montana hospital the next morning after his wife, Marleza, noticed something was seriously wrong with her husband.

He had to undergo brain surgery immediately.
“Jaco is always up early in the mornings.
“I tried to wake him up, but when I looked into his eyes I knew something was wrong,” said an emotional Marleza.
She mentioned that Jaco walked into the house that Saturday night and told her two men had punched him in the face.

“His nose was bleeding and I stopped the bleeding. He took a shower and climbed into bed.
“He told me through the night that he had a terrible headache.”
Her voice is shaking and she is still very emotional when speaking about the incident.
“I immediately called the ambulance.
“His blood pressure was extremely high.”

Marleza said that she is not yet ready to watch the incident, which was captured on video footage.
“I can draw a picture for myself of what might have happened. What is it going to show me more than what the police have already explained to me?
“According to an investigating officer from Villieria police station, two men pulled over with their motorcycles, walked up to his vehicle, and started hitting him.
“I do not know what happened that night and why they assaulted Jaco.”

The family hopes and prays that someone with information regarding the incident will come forward.
“He suffered severe damage to the right side of his brain.
“His eye sockets are crushed and Jaco lost sight in the right eye,” she said.
Jaco is still on an oxygen machine and has not opened his eyes again.
“The doctors informed me on Monday that I had to take it day-by-day.
“It will take a while for him to recover and this is where we find ourselves now.
“I always have my phone with me in case the doctors urgently need to get hold of me.”

According to the doctors, they mentioned to the Seeger family that his body must first recover before he will wake up.
“He still has a lot of fluid on his brain. His face is still swollen.”
Marleza comforts herself that her husband is in the best care and that she does not have to worry about it.
“I have to think of our two children now, we will have to face the reality that lies ahead.
“Every person’s body reacts differently and it all depends on Jaco’s fighting spirit.
“The Moot is a small community – there must be someone who has more information about the incident,” said Marleza.
Villieria police station spokesperson Warrant Officer Marinda Austin pleaded with the community to come forward regarding information surrounding the incident.
“A case of attempted murder is pending.
“We will handle the matter confidentially if there is anyone who has any information, but we need the community’s help.
“If anyone has seen the incident or possibly knows who the suspects are, they should notify the police immediately,” said Austin.
There is no indication at this stage as to why the men assaulted Jaco.
The Seegers have been living in the Moot since 2009.
