Top Eduplex matriculants bag 7 and 8 distinctions

"A lot of us, we when get to matric, put unnecessary pressure on ourselves. The only expectations that you need to meet is those you set for yourself," says Darren Hill.

Two Eduplex matriculants bagged 7 and 8 distinctions respectively with the school again achieving a 100% pass rate.

Eduplex had a total of 62 matriculants for 2021.

The school has achieved a 100% pass rate for the past seven years.

Charayne Moore was the top with an average of 90,6% and 7 distinctions while Darren Hill got a total of 8 distinctions.

Moore, who’s planning on studying Occupational Therapy at the University of Pretoria, said her stress level reached the ceiling before her preliminary exams.

“I was quite stressed during the prelims but with the help of my teachers, I managed to do well and prepare myself for the final exams. Going into the final exams, I was more relaxed because whenever I needed help, our teachers were always available on WhatsApp to assist us even after school hours. I will forever be grateful to them.”

Moore said she received her matric results by midnight but didn’t expect she would be the top-performing learner at the school.

“The next day when my parents and I went to collect my matric certificate, we were informed I was the top student. I felt incredible because I didn’t expect it to happen to be honest. I started crying, my mum and dad also cried,” she said.

Darren Hill had the most distinctions (8).

Darren Hill, who got the most distinctions at the school, told Rekord he was well prepared ahead of last year’s final matric exams.

“My philosophy has always been like, ‘You did you best so what happens after, you can’t control’. There was a mixture of relief obviously after my final paper and I felt like I could finally sleep after weeks of studying and preparing,” he said.

Hill advised upcoming matriculants to focus on themselves and ignore the noise outside.

“A lot of us, when we get to matric, put unnecessary pressure on ourselves. The only expectations that you need to meet is those you set for yourself, no one should ever set the bar for you. If your results are satisfactory to you, then be content with that and don’t allow anyone to put you down,” he said.

Hill said he was accepted for Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pretoria.
