Atteridgeville man arrested for drugs and possession of unlicenced firearm

A 36-year-old man was arrested for drug dealing and possession of an unlicensed firearm on Saturday in Atteridgeville

The arrest came after a tip-off from the community, said Atteridgeville police communication officer Mapula Rikhotso.

“The crime prevention team pounced on the suspect. He was in possession of a firearm and different types of drugs. He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and drug dealing,” she said.

The crime prevention team were assisted by Tshwane metro police who were part of the weekend operations around the west of Pretoria

On Thursday, the Pretoria K9 unit arrested three men for possession of an unlicensed AK-47 and pistol along Vom Hagen Street, Pretoria West.

The arrest came after the K9 unit spotted a suspicious white Honda vehicle with three people in it, said Pretoria West police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma.

“The members of the Pretoria K9 unit acted swiftly. They stopped the vehicle at the robots at Transoranje Road heading towards Attridgeville,“ she said at the time.

Their suspicions yielded positive results as they manage to recover unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The trio, aged 31, 27 and 21, were arrested and detained at the Pretoria West Police station.
