Third person arrested as the police intensifies fight against drugs in Eersterust

"The suspect was searched and police found 96 packets of drugs, suspected to be Crystal meth."

Eersterust police arrested a third suspected drug dealer on Friday, January 28, after two men were nabbed for drug dealing the day before.

The SAPS intensified their fight against drugs by executing yet another intelligence-driven operation that landed the suspected drug dealer in the dock.

According to Sergeant Sam Shibambo, Eersterust police visited a house in Niger Avenue to search for drugs.

“On arrival, we found the suspect in the house.

“The suspect was searched and police found 96 packets of drugs, alleged to be crystal meth.

“It is a deadly drug that makes the users aggressive and sometimes violent,” he said.

The first two arrests came after police received information about two men who were transporting drugs to Eersterust in a gold Nissan Tiida.

Police finally spotted the Nissan and managed to stop it on Charles Leyds Avenue.

The officers proceeded to search the vehicle and the occupants were put behind bars for CAT, with an estimated street value of R60 000. They were also detained for dealing drugs.

Eersterust station commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Simon Matshwane Theledi thanked the police team for their commitment to helping curb drug dealing in the community.

“I want to commend you for your professionalism.

“Unfortunately, drugs continue to be a problem in the area which ruins a lot of lives. No effort should be spared in removing drug dealers from the streets,” said Theledi.
