Bronkhorstspruit police warn community of increased robberies
Police are also concerned about robberies and hijackings taking place on the N4 on ramp/off ramp Masada.
Bronkhorstspruit police warned residents about an increase in theft and housebreaking cases in the area.
“Most cases have been reported in Cultura park, Erasmus, Zithobeni, as well as farms and plots,” said Bronkhorstspruit police spokesperson, Constable Munyadziwa Catherine Ramovha.
She said the majority of housebreaking cases took place at night.
Ramovha also warned of women who were operating around local taverns, taking advantage of unsuspecting men.
“It is alleged that these ladies often convince their victims (men) to take them to their homes and on arrival, they spike their drinks and leave them to pass out. When they victim eventually wakes up, all his house belongings are stolen,” she said.
“The police would like to warn people to refrain from welcoming strangers to their homes. We advise community members to ensure that their houses are secured with burglar bars on all windows and doors. If alarms are installed it must be activated all the times people leave the house.”
The community was also encouraged to form WhatsApp group chats to share information about any criminal activities taking place in their area.
This will assist to report any suspicious people and vehicles to the police.
“We encourage people to report any form of criminality.”
Ramovha also warned the community about the robberies and hijackings taking place on the N4 highway on/off-ramp Masada.
“People are being robbed of their belongings like cellphones and cash while hitch-hiking.
“We would like to advise people to refrain from hitch-hiking. Rather take a taxi were they know that you will arrive to your destination safely with your belongings.”

Police have issued the following tips:
– Avoid hitch-hiking at night and refuse rides from drivers who are intoxicated.
– Do not hitch-hike while you are drunk or under the influence of drugs.
– Make a call to your friend about the details of the car you are travelling in or just send a SMS.
– Females should avoid a lift in cars with multiple men inside. It is better for women to hitch-hike in pairs.
– No crime is too small to be reported and every one of us can play a role in curbing crime by reporting crime.
– The police would like to urge community members to report any form of criminality.
– Reporting crime assists police in a number of ways; to pick up on crime trends and aid investigations.
