Alleged killer found hiding in Pretoria with victim’s car
“It is alleged that the suspect forcefully gained entry through the kitchen door of the victim’s house in Kgomotso, near Vryburg, and stole the keys of her Toyota Fortuner”.
A 34-year-old man has appeared in the Ga-Rankuwa court on Monday for allegedly killing 67-year-old Galotlwaele Jaqueline Motabogi in the early hours of Sunday morning in the North West province.
Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, said: “It is alleged that the suspect forcefully gained entry through the kitchen door of the victim’s house in Kgomotso, near Vryburg, and stole the keys of her Toyota Fortuner”.
Funani said according to reports, the victim had allegedly heard her vehicle’s engine running and went to investigate, when the suspect spotted the victim.
“He shot her.”
She said the suspect then fled the scene with the victim’s car.
“Subsequently to the shooting, the suspect escaped to hide in Pretoria, and through the assistance of Gauteng police, he was traced and arrested.
“The victim was declared dead by Emergency Medical and Rescue Services (EMRS) on the scene.”
Funani said police managed to seize the Toyota Fortuner, five cellphones as well as a hunting rifle.
She said the suspect was expected to be transferred back to North West after appearing in Ga-Rankuwa magistrate’s court on Monday.
Funani said the man was facing charges of being in possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, possession suspected stolen property and possession of an unlicenced firearm.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, thanked the Gauteng police for their co-operation in arresting the suspect.
Kwena condemned the incident and instructed the detectives to make sure that they oppose bail when the suspect appears in the North West magistrate’s court.
