Eight busted for allegedly plotting house robbery or farm attack

The suspects – six men and a woman – were allegedly dropped off by a white Toyota Quantum on Monday at around midnight.

Eight people were arrested on Monday in Boschkop, in the east of Pretoria, while on their way to allegedly commit a house robbery or farm attack.

The arrest happened after the neighbourhood patrol was notified of a group of people hiding behind some bushes, said Boschkop police spokesperson Sergeant Yeroboam Mbatsane.

“The suspects – six men and a woman – were allegedly dropped off by a white Toyota Quantum on Monday at around midnight,” he said.

“The neighbourhood patrol was tipped off and they managed to find and corner the suspects. Police were called to the scene and all of them were arrested after they were found in possession of two illegal firearms and housebreaking equipment.”

The white Quantum was later found and seized. The driver was also arrested after weapons were found inside.

Mbatsane said the suspects were also linked to other serious crimes in Boschkop and the east of Pretoria.

The arrested group appeared in court and were remanded behind bars.

Boschkop station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Abakona Sithole praised the officers on duty for arresting the alleged would-be robbers.
