Four arrested in Centurion after police chase ends in crash

The suspects attempted to run over police officers during the chase. Four armed men were arrested following a chase that led to a crash in Centurion on Tuesday morning.

The arrests came after a joint operation between Lyttelton police and security services within the Highveld area.

Alert community members spotted a suspicious-looking white Renault Sandero in the area and immediately contacted security services, said police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller.
A lookout for the vehicle was circulated.

“During the coordinated operation, a police highway patrol unit came across the vehicle in Luton Avenue, Highveld. When the members approached the vehicle, the suspects tried to flee causing an accident,” he said.

Miller said the suspects then reversed and tried to run over the approaching officers who then resorted to “advanced tactical measures” to protect themselves.

“A short chase then ensued with members of the security services joining in. The four men attempted to abandon the vehicle in Logan Avenue, but police and security members were too quick for them.”

They pounced on the suspects before they could get a chance to get out of their vehicle.
Miller said an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and housebreaking equipment were found inside the vehicle which had false number plates.
