Erasmia police welcome new station commander
Madonsela brings with her 27 years experience.
Lieutenant-Colonel Phindile Madonsela has taken over the reins as the new Erasmia police station commander from Colonel Thandi Mokgetsi, who retired after 35 years of service.
Madonsela brings with her a wealth of 27 years experience.
Speaking to Rekord, she said her journey with the SAPS started in 1995 as a trainee before she joined the crime prevention unit in Parkview.
She later relocated to Rosebank for a year before returning to Parkview in 1999.
Thereafter, she would rapidly move through the ranks, thus becoming a Lieutenant-Colonel a few years ago.
“After being promoted to Captain in 2009, I was transferred to Parktown police head office where I was stationed for 10 years. During my time there, I did regular visits to various police stations across the province, which eventually led me to Erasmia,” she said.
“Erasmia felt like a good place for me to be. I felt like I can contribute a lot to the station and when the opportunity came, I did not hesitate.”

Since joining the station in January this year, Madonsela said she was impressed with the dedication of her team members.
“There are many young people here that I can mentor and guide.”
She said service delivery was her main priority.
“Crime is problematic, especially the selling of drugs. We are tracking down the drug lords’ operations in the area. If we can get support from the community, the issue of drug dealing can be a thing of the past,” Madonsela said.
She said plans were underway to improve the relationship between the community and the police.
“My biggest issue is to get the community together. When I arrived here, I realised that we don’t have an active CPF, which is concerning. I understand that there are unsolved issues within the community, but I plead with residents to put their differences aside and join hands.”
Mandonsela said having an active CPF helps create a safer environment.
