Bakkie rear-ends truck in Centurion, man seriously hurt

Rescue Services had to use specialised tools to free him from the vehicle.

A man in his 30s was seriously injured when his bakkie rear-ended a truck on the N1 near Old Johannesburg Road in Midstream, Centurion on Monday morning.

Emergency services arrived at 09:36 to find the bakkie and truck in the left-hand lane, said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

He said the man in his 30s was found lying trapped inside the bakkie. Rescue Services had to use specialised tools to free him from the vehicle.

“Once released, medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained serious injuries. He was treated and provided with pain-relief medication before being transported to a nearby hospital,” Meiring said.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Local authorities were on the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.
