Man busted for ‘goatnapping’
The suspect managed to cram four stolen goats into a VW Jetta's boot.
A 58-year-old man was arrested after four suspected stolen goats were found crammed into a car’s boot in Stinkwater on Saturday morning.
“Police officers were travelling towards Mmotla village when they stopped a suspicious-looking VW Jetta with three men inside,” said Temba spokesperson Sergeant Herman Moremi.
“When they stopped the vehicle, the three men ran away. The officers, however, managed to arrest one man. They searched the vehicle and found the goats in the boot.
“The man could not tell them where the goats came from and he was arrested.”
Moremi said the goats will be handed to the stock theft unit and the vehicle will be impounded as it was involved in the commission of a crime.

Temba police station commander Brigadier Johannes Tau applauded the officers for arresting one of the men after realising that they were trying to run away.
Tau said this incident showed that criminals were now using private vehicles to transport livestock instead of bakkies.
“We have many cases of stock theft in our area and do our best to reduce the number of cases reported to us by working hand-in-hand with the community and owners of livestock,” said Tau.
Moremi said the man will soon appear in the Moretele magistrate’s court facing charges of possession of suspected stolen livestock.
