Upload documentation for online car licence renewals, motorists told
Upon announcement of the post office car licence renewal service earlier this month, its spokesperson said the turnaround time for the renewal process was three working days, but could be up to five working days for outlying areas.

Motorists renewing their car licences through the SA Post Office’s (Sapo) online platform were urged to upload documents that complied with legal requirements.
Sapo is currently dealing with a high demand for the recently launched online service.
To avoid unnecessary delays in the renewal process, motorists must ensure:
– ID copies were certified and not older than three months.
– Documents were signed.
– Proof of address was not older than three months.
If a company-owned car’s licence was being renewed, Sapo said the following was required:
– Proxy letter on company letterhead and signed by the proxy.
– Business Register Number form attached.
– Certified ID copy of the proxy.
– Company’s proof of address.
“The post office is introducing measures, including increasing the team working on licence renewals, to keep up with demand,” spokesperson Johan Kruger said.
He added that the full car licence renewal process, including payment thereof, was done online except the last step of accessing the actual renewed disc.
“This is done in one of two ways: Sapo can deliver the disc to the customer at R75 or the disc can be collected from a post office counter at no charge,” Kruger said.
He further said the payment was done safely and securely through Masterpass – an app that could be downloaded from the Google or Apple App stores.
All motorists could make use of the service, except those in the Western Cape.
“Sapo is working to extend the service to this province as well,” Kruger noted.

Motorists still had the option to renew their car licences at selected post office branches if they so wished.
“Customers who renew a vehicle licence at a Post Office branch pay the licence renewal fee and leave with the new disc immediately,” he said.
Kruger added that Sapo also offered bulk motor vehicle licence renewal for fleet operators and both big and small businesses.
“This service entails the collection of all necessary documentation from company premises, taking them back to the post office for processing, the printing of the discs, and delivery back to the offices of the customer,” he said.
Upon announcement of the service earlier this month, Kruger said the turnaround time for the renewal process was three working days, but could be up to five working days for outlying areas.
The online service could be accessed by visiting www.sapomvl.co.za while enquiries related to the motor vehicle licensing or other postal services could be forwarded to Sapo by sending an SMS to 31133 or by sending an email to customer.service@postoffice.co.za.
