Construction of clinic in Mamelodi underway
Once completed, the clinic will benefit approximately 60 000 people in Mamelodi East communities.
Construction of the Lusaka Clinic in Mamelodi is progressing well and is expected to be completed by next year in July.
MMC for Health, Rina Marx said the project was about 55% completed.
“Some of the ongoing work includes earthworks, bricklaying, electrical and plumbing connections. The anticipated completion date is around July 2023. Once completed, the clinic will benefit around 60 000 people in Mamelodi East communities, such as Alaska, Pienaarspoort, Stoffel Park and Riverside,” she said.
Marx said the clinic would consist of 21 consulting rooms with provision for a full dispensary, emergency room and all auxiliary functions.

She said the clinic was designed around green building principles that include central courtyards to facilitate fresh air and solar installations for lighting and water heating.
“Despite some delays in the project, I am satisfied that measures have been implemented to remove stumbling blocks and to ensure that the contractor fulfils the contractual obligations to complete the project within the allocated time frame and budget,” Marx said.
“The project has so far created 35 job opportunities and contributed to skills development for residents within the local communities. I strongly believe that, once completed, the clinic will be a flagship of healthcare services excellence in the city.”
