Water supply shutdown in parts of the east of Pta
"The city was not informed by Rand Water about this shutdown and we are escalating the matter."
Water supply to large parts of the east of Pretoria was shut down, the Tshwane metro said on Saturday evening.
“The City of Tshwane’s water and sanitation department has just been made aware that Rand Water has closed off supply from the Vlakfontein reservoir,” the metro’s energy and electricity, water and sanitation, regional planning and coordination MMC Phillip Nel said.
The shutdown would affect regions 3, 4 and 6.
“The reservoir was closed for repair work yesterday and the planned completion date was set for 19:00 on Sunday,” Nel said.
“The city was not informed by Rand Water about this shutdown and we are escalating the matter,” he said.
Nel further said the metro’s key concern was that the loss of water supply could lead to areas running low and even running out of water.
“We need to encourage residents to conserve water in the interim while the city urgently engages with Rand Water and pushes for a faster restoration of water supply,” Nel said.
