East suburbs without power following minor substation blaze

The estimated time of power restoration was unknown as the team of electricians were still conducting tests.

Parts of the east of Pretoria were without power following a minor blaze at the Wapadrand substation on Sunday.

“Preliminary assessments indicate that only one panel ignited a flame which was swiftly contained,” Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said.

He also highlighted that the substation was not substantially damaged.

“The City of Tshwane would like to state there was no extensive explosion at its Wapadrand substation earlier today,” Mashigo said.

A team of technicians was already on site.

“A team of electricians has been activated to execute the repairs and has been on site with the intent to work flat out to restore the power supply soon,” he said.

The estimated time of power restoration was unknown as the team of electricians were still conducting tests.

Affected suburbs:

– Eastern portion of Equestria

– D75 MV Rural line

– Lombardi Estate

– Tyger Valley

– ZW and Tierpoort MV Rural Lines
