Cops crack down on crime, 400 arrested across Tshwane this past weekend

During multidisciplinary operations, a silver Toyota Lexus recovered in Silverton, while at Moretele Park a Mercedes A200 confirmed to be hijacked in Ratanda was seized.

Tshwane police had their hands full during operations which saw over 400 people arrested since Thursday.

“Tracing of wanted suspects started from Friday evening to the early hours of Saturday and led to multiple arrests of 252 suspects, among those arrested, 98 were for gender-based violence,” said police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.

The simultaneous Vhuthu Hawe operations were conducted between Thursday evening to early hours of Sunday morning.

On Friday, members of the Bronkhorstspruit police, Tshwane metro police and Tracker responded to be on the lookout for a stolen vehicle, a Toyota bakkie which was stolen from the Marble Hall area. Verena police members were in hot pursuit.

Selepe said the vehicle was intercepted in Sokhulomi, Bronkhorstspruit.

Two suspects were arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle, possession of two firearms and ammunition.

On Saturday, Pretoria Moot crime prevention members spotted a suspicious vehicle at Chamberlain precinct.

The vehicle was stopped and upon searching, a 9mm unlicensed pistol without a serial number was seized.

In Mamelodi, eight people were arrested for illegal gambling and four for dealing and possession of drugs.

Five fines were issued for selling liquor without a licence.

Other suspects were found to have committed serious and violent crimes such as rape, assault GBH, sexual assault, murder, car hijacking, attempted murder, robbery, theft, fraud, possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

All arrested suspects will appear in various courts in Tshwane in due course.

Acting district commissioner Brigadier Thine accredited various law enforcement agencies for the integrated approach towards fighting crime.

“More law enforcement visibility and crime prevention operations should be conducted.”
