Moot police bust drunk drivers
Police together with the Tshwane metro police and Community Policing Forum (CPF) were stunned by some of the readings that came from some of the motorists.
Pretoria Moot police focused on drunk driving this past weekend where a total of 11 people were arrested during a multi-disciplinary operation.
The operation held on Friday, saw 11 arrested for driving under the influence, said Moot police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt.
The arrests were made during a roadblock held in Johan Heyns Road, Wonderboom South.
“The suspects, between the ages of 29 and 54 years, were pulled over during a roadblock and tested for alcohol consumption. One of the suspect’s readings was a stunning 1.88 which was several times over the limit,” Breedt said.
He said that the local police together with the Tshwane metro police and Community Policing Forum (CPF) were stunned by some of the readings that came from some of the arrested suspects.
Breedt said several fines were issued to drivers for road traffic offences.
The value of all the fines that were issued during the roadblock came to the amount of R16 250.
About 475 people and more than 200 vehicles were searched.
In unrelated incident arrests, members of the Pretoria Moot crime prevention arrested two men who were found in possession of a 9mm pistol with serial number removed, Breedt said.
“The members were patrolling along Soutpansberg Road on Sunday late afternoon when they spotted a silver Hyundai Getz with two men inside. With routine stop-and-search, police found a 9mm pistol with five rounds inside the vehicle.
“The two suspects, aged 25 and 31, were arrested and are facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
“The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to see if it was used in previous offences,” he said.
The arrested suspects appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court.
Station commander for Pretoria Moot police Colonel Hlengeni Giben Mashaba applauded all the role players involved in the operations and their dedication to fighting crime.
