Eskom security guards shot at and robbed at Winterveldt substation
“Three of the guards sustained gunshot injuries and were robbed of their firearms and cellphones.”

Three security officers were injured at an Eskom substation in Winterveld on Sunday.
Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mathsantsha said two armed response security guards had gone to the substation to join two static security guards for a routine patrol.
“At around 22:30, the two static guards opened the gate for the two guards to leave the substation,” he said.
“As the two security guards were about to get inside the vehicle to drive off, four suspects suddenly appeared shooting randomly while advancing towards the four guards.
“Three of the guards sustained gunshot injuries and were robbed of their firearms and cellphones.”
The four men fled the scene and one of the static guards managed to report the incident to their control room.
The injured guards were treated at the Legae Mediclinic hospital and were discharged on Tuesday.
In January a security officer was killed when 30 heavily armed suspects shot at him and six of his colleagues in an alleged attempt to steal copper cable outside the Eskom Klipspruit Customer Network Centre in Soweto.
Eskom’s safety health environment quality and security manager, Gauteng Kith Maitisa said, “Eskom condemns these acts of criminality and requests members of the public to provide information that can lead to the arrest and the successful prosecution of those involved,” he said.
“Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activities anonymously to the Eskom Crime Line on 0800 11 27 22 (toll-free) or to the nearest police station. The case is under investigation by Eskom and the SAPS.”
