Bogus cops are robbing people in the CBD, police warn
“The culprits roam the city streets wearing reflectors or regalia that would have a police badge and use fake police appointment certificates to rob the victims.”

Pretoria central police have warned the community to be on the alert for any bogus law enforcers and patrollers doing rounds in the city.
There have been several complaints where members of the community were robbed by what seemed like police officials.
Pretoria central police spokesperson Constable Thabang Nkhumise said foreign nationals were the most targeted and have been robbed of their money.
“The culprits roam the city streets wearing reflectors or regalia that would have a police badge and use fake police appointment certificates to rob the victims,” he said.
In most incidents, these bogus cops will approach an unsuspecting victim then demand that they hand over their permits or any personal documents as verification that they are legally based in the country.
Nkhumise said the foreign nationals are then threatened if they don’t produce these documents.
“If the foreigners don’t produce the documents, the suspects then demand cash from them on the spot.”

The police called on the community to report such incidents and asked that foreign nationals carry their identity documents on them to avoid becoming victims.
The community can contact the station directly on 012 353 4000 or use their Crime Stop hotline 08600 10111 and dial 112 to lodge their complaints and report crimes.
