Local football club plans to rewrite history
“We have never beaten Touch Football Club and now it is time to turn the tables,” says head coach.
Club Sport Maritimo is in a bid to make history by beating Touch Football Club for the first time since it was formed, the soccer team said.
Maritimo revealed this on Thursday, as it prepares to face Touch for the second time in the Safa Tshwane Regional League games for the 2021/2022 soccer season. Their match is scheduled to take place at the Temba stadium on Saturday at 15:00.
“We are ready to beat Touch for the first time,” Maritimo head coach Selby “Sfuba” Sihlangu told Rekord.
Sfuba said their track record showed that they have never beaten Touch and this had to change.
He said his side was confident that it would turn the tables in the upcoming match.
“The entire team has worked hard to develop its performance standard, which is evident from our recent performances.”

In the past three games, Maritimo defeated Tshwane United Football Club 2-0, Ma-Lions 1-0 and Liverpool 4-2.
Sfuba said the time to be the walk in the park was over and it was time to provide tough competition to their opponents.
“We have never beat Touch in the past but now we want to beat them the same way we have beaten the other team.”
In the first round of the league matches, Tough defeated Maritimo 2-0 at Maritimo sports ground on October 30, 2021.
The upcoming game might be one of the toughest games for Maritimo since Touch might fight to retain their dignity after suffering a 1-0 loss in the hands of City Stars Football Club at the Philip stadium last Saturday. They drew 1-1 in their previous matches against Chillie Boys Football Club and Tshwane Unite Football Club.
Both Maritimo and Touch have 24 points each in the log standings and have played 17 games each.
Touch is seventh of the log standings due to the goal difference of four in their favour and Maritimo is in position eight.
The team has several times revealed that it’s ultimate objective is to complete the current season in top four.
Their goal seems feasible since the four last teams in the top eight, from position five to eight, have 24 points each. Pretoria Athletic Football Club is currently fifth and Ma-Lions Football Club in sixth place.
However, their loss will lead to a major setback.
