Man (35) sentenced to five years for assaulting boy (14)

The Soshanguve magistrate’s court has sentenced a 35-year-old man to a five-year sentence after he was found guilty of assaulting a 14- year-old.
Police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Maluleka said the the Rietgat SAPS had warmly welcomed the conviction of Sello Tshabalala.
“Tshabalala was arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to a 14-year-old teenager in block KK, Soshanguve,” said Maluleka.
“The incident took place on December 17, 2021 where Tshabalala assaulted a teenager, ridiculed, slapped and kicked him until he sustained serious bodily injuries in front of a tuckshop.”
Maluleka said the boy who was swollen on the face, had suffered injuries to his upper body and leg as a result of the assault.
“He was taken to his parents’ home by his friends after which he was taken to Dr George Mukhari academic hospital, in Ga-Rankuwa, by his mother for medical attention.”

The Rietgat SAPS station commander, Brigadier Molatelo Maphoto applauded the investigating officer, Constable Thokozile Shongwe for the meticulous investigation of the case.
“Cases of GBH are a thorn in the flesh in our policing area and this conviction will send a message to the community,” said Maphoto.
Maphoto also urged the community to learn from this sentencing and stop acts of violence.
