On Friday, the 44-year-old Muhamed Sajid Khan was convicted of two counts of murder and attempted murder at the Pretoria High Court, according to NPA regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.
She said Khan, originally from Pakistan, owned nine properties in and around Pretoria.
“On 01 February 2020, six members of the Concerned Tshwane Residence (CTR) went to one of Khan’s properties in Luttig Street, Pretoria West, to verify whether he was indeed the rightful owner of the said property. Upon arrival, an argument arose between Khan and a member of the CTR. “
Khan took out a gun and shot the deceased (Matlala) and a bystander who also died on the scene and attempted to shoot another member of the CTR team,” Mahanjana said.
He said according to the testimony of one of the witnesses, who is a member of the CTR, “the members of the CTR went to the police station to report the matter”.
“When they arrived, they saw Khan and out of fear of what he might do, they did not go into the police station. Instead, they went back to the scene of the shooting.”

The police later came to the scene and they then reported the matter.
Two days after the incident, Khan handed himself over to the police and he was released on R10 000 bail.
After he was found guilty, state advocate Eric Sihlangu, applied that Khan’s bail be revoked. The court granted the state’s application, Mahanjana said.
Khan remained in custody after his conviction.
The matter is set for May 31 for sentencing.
