Overall, a total of 280 people were arrested in the Tshwane district during O Kae Molao operations which were led by Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko and acting provincial commissioner Major General Girly Mbele.

Crimes against persons and property were the most prevalent in the Akasia policing precinct, the Gauteng Department of Community Safety said.

This was revealed during a briefing held in the precinct ahead of an O Kae Molao operation at the weekend.

During the briefing, it was also revealed that poor lighting, poor infrastructure such as potholes were challenges to police efficiency in the area.

A total of 181 liquor outlets in the precinct also posed a challenge to compliance management.

During the operation in the streets of Akasia, 21 people were arrested.

They were arrested on charges which included hijackings, reckless and negligent driving, assault and housebreaking.
