Home manager, Jady Hewitt said the aim of the event was to raise money in order to be able to pay for their daily operations, support people living with disabilities at their care facility and conduct some maintenance to their building.
She said hosting event was an important exercise since they were independent.
“We are an independent home that is not subsidised by the government,” Hewitt told Rekord.

She said their revenue came from individuals and through hosting fundraising events, citing that their income had however, dropped significantly in the last two years owing to Covid-19 pandemic.

Explaining about the competition, she said it was contested by eight people, who believed they could serve best potjiekos dishes.

The care facility had two pots of potjiekos, including one of beef and another for chicken.
She said besides having their own pots, contestants had nice pots including, among others meat, impala and pork belly pots.
Several residents from all over Pretoria attended the event and had an opportunity to eat delicious potjiekos meals at a reasonable cost.

Hewitt said their meals were unique as each of the pots had a “secrete recipe”.
