Several Centurion roads closed due to metro workers’ protest

Cement and stones were reportedly dumped on the intersection of Selborne and Cantonment streets.

Several roads in Centurion were closed on Tuesday after Tshwane metro workers protested in the area.

According to a statement by the metro, the ongoing protest action by some employees had adversely affected the metro’s ability to respond to service interruptions.

“Our teams are unable to attend to some logged complaints because of the locked gates at our Centurion offices,” said metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba.

One of these complaints included a power failure in region 4 due to suspected cable theft.

“Residents are warned to avoid Selborne, Clifton, Basden and Rabie streets as some employees have blocked those streets with rubbish and cement.”

Bokaba said the metro apologised to its residents and customers affected by the inconvenience.

“We will issue an update as and when there are developments.”
