BREAKING NEWS: Gunshots, explosions heard along N4 in Pretoria
Gunshots and explosions in the Watermeyer area linked to reported cash-in-transit heist on the N4. Motorists are warned to avoid the area.
It sounded like a war zone on Thursday evening as residents could hear gunshots and explosions in what is believed to be a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist on the N4 highway.
Details are sketchy, but the heist is believed to have taken place just around 20:45 on the N4 near the Watermeyer offramp.
Gunshots were reportedly heard in Die Wilgers and Val de Grace, even as far as the Moot, as pictures started circulating on social media depicting a car burning out on the highway.

In some of the photos, a CIT vehicle can be seen lying on its roof.
On social media, residents reported hearing an explosion, while others said a column of smoke could be seen rising from the highway.

A Wilgers resident said she heard an explosion around 20:45.
The explosion was followed by a round of gunshots and then a second explosion. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
It was not yet clear whether there were any injuries or fatalities.
