Flood victims get help with food and blankets

“It is not the first time these families’ belongings were swept away by the floods.”

A local community organisation handed over food parcels, sanitary pads and warm blankets to 10 families affected by the recent floods.

Mbalienhle Mndawe Children’s Foundation in partnership with Entruevest Impilo Foundation made the generous donations to identified families whose belongings were swept away on Sunday.

Mbali Modau (23) founder of the children’s foundation, said the donation was to help the families get back on their feet.

“The food idea and collecting blankets for the victims came after we realised that this is not the first-time floods hit informal settlement residents in Mamelodi and Nellmapius.

“We felt we needed to go and see the flood victims and give a helping hand wherever we can.”

Mbali said this is part of giving back to the community and the donations will assist the families while they are waiting for the Tshwane metro to relocate them.

The donations were also a way of building a relationship and encouraging the residents not to give up as most of the flood victims are unemployed.

Mbalienhle Mndawe Children’s foundation is a non-profit organisation founded in 2021 aimed at helping children with school items as well as giving back to the community.

Mbali said there is a lot that needs to be done in assisting the flood victims and pleaded with local organisations or businessmen to help with food parcels and warm blankets.

“Any form of donation is welcome.

“Remember, my beloved people, no donation is too small to change someone’s life. We accept and appreciate any donation for the hand of God has blessed it beyond,” Mbali said.
