Hundreds arrested in midweek O Kae Molao operation

Hundreds of people were arrested during an O Kae Molao operation conducted by police in Loate and Mabopane, north of Pretoria, between Wednesday evening and Thursday.

These operations were led by acting Tshwane district police commissioner Brigadier Samuel Thine.

“Tshwane detectives teams arrested 266 people during the tracing of wanted suspects from Wednesday evening through to the early hours of Thursday morning,” police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said.

She said 116 of them were arrested in connection with gender-based violence crimes.

Overall, more than 300 people were arrested during the operation.

A further nine illegal liquor outlets were also closed down and liquor confiscated.

“A total of 19 undocumented persons were detained for further processing by Home Affairs while an additional seven suspects were arrested for drug-related crimes and one other suspect for possession of stolen property,” Selepe said.

Furthermore, more 245 Aarto fines, valued at R127 000, were issued along with 292 vehicles and 900 people searched.

“The purpose of these operations is to address crime generators and road policing through vehicle checkpoints and to enforce the law,” she said.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation, Selepe said Ga-Rankuwa detectives arrested nine people for crimes which included house break-in, common robberies, rape and common assault.

In another operation, Boschkop police closed down an illegal liquor outlet and arrested a person for dealing in drugs.

Brigadier Thine said the multi-disciplinary operations they conducted were yielding positive results as there was a reduction in crime, and more arrests.

He said these crimes included illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, drug-related crimes, driving under the influence of alcohol and sexual offences.
