Educational trust keeps its promise to donate school shoes
Education trust targets local government schools, especially children coming from poor backgrounds and informal settlements.
Local schools in Mamelodi and Atteridgeville received donations of school shoes last week Thursday.
The generous donations were made by DMRN Maepa Education Trust as part of their school shoes programme in which they donated 200 pairs of school shoes for Bula Dikgoro primary school in Mamelodi East and Phuthadichaba primary school in Atteridgeville.
ANC regional leader Kgoshi Maepa, who runs the foundation with his children, said their programme was aimed at reaching out to those who really need school shoes.
“We also work with local councillors to supply other pressing needs in schools based on our test-qualifying criteria,” said Maepa.
The education trust was formed in 2017 and named after Kgoshi Maepa’s children’s names, Dimpho, Mashubathele, Rolihlahla and Nomzamo (DMRN).
The foundation went as far as Soshanguve and Hammanskraal to donate shoes at Phumzile primary school, Soshanguve, Tane primary and Leboneng primary schools in Hammanskraal.
Maepa said the education trust decided to “adopt” some of the schools as they donated sanitary pads to the schools previously and promised to come back.
The foundation was also impressed with the schools’ results.
He added that the education trust targets local government schools, especially children from poor backgrounds and informal settlements.
“We would like to thank all our donors and sponsors for their selfless contributions and continued support,” he said.
Councillors Seabelo Marishane (ward 15 – Mamelodi), Veron Phasha (ward 71 – Atteridgeville), Rose Sethole (ward 34 – Soshanguve), Boas Matjeke (ward 8) and Nthabiseng Mahlangu (ward 75 – both from Hammanskraal) helped identify the schools that desperately needed donations in their respective constituencies.
Maepa thanked all the donors who helped donate 200 pairs in one day.
The schools in Mamelodi, Atteridgeville, Soshanguve and Hammanskraal said they appreciated the generous donations and that it came at a time when the schools needed them most.
