Pretoria streets to be affected by Operation Dudula march

“While Operation Dudula’s mission might be to protect communities, it cannot be at the expense of foreign nationals who call South Africa home. Neither xenophobia nor criminal, violent and unjust activities should not be tolerated and indulged against foreign migrants.”

The TMPD have urged motorists and residents to be aware of a protest that are set to hit areas in the north of Pretoria.

According to a poster the Operation Dudula group will be marching to BMW, Nissan, Brewery and Coke in an aim for jobs to be created for South Africans.

TMPD said its members would submit a memorandum of demands against the employment of illegal foreigners by Praga, Afrit and Rossa complex.

The marchers are set to gather from 09:00 at Rosslyn police station, walk on to Rossa complex in Piet Rautenbach Street, then turn right into Kotzenberg Street to Praga and Afrit.

The following intersections will be affected:

– Piet Rautenbach Street

– Kotzenberg Street

– Rosslyn Road (R566)

They are expected to disperse from Afrit in Rosslyn Road at 13:30.

TMPD officers will be deployed to monitor the march and all affected streets.

Motorists are advised to avoid affected streets and use alternative routes such as:

This comes as the DA recently raised concern over Operation Dudula and the violence against foreigners.

DA Shadow Minister of Home Affairs, Angel Khanyile said the DA condemned Operation Dudula’s xenophobic rhetoric and subsequent illegality and violence against foreigners in South Africa.

“While Operation Dudula’s mission might be to protect communities, it cannot be at the expense of foreign nationals who call South Africa home. Neither xenophobia nor criminal, violent and unjust activities should not be tolerated and indulged against foreign migrants.”

Khanyile said the DA believed that if this “project” was allowed to continue unabated, it would very soon lead to violence and unrest, as was witnessed in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in July last year.

“The DA understands the frustration facing marginalised communities. But we do not believe that the appropriate course of action is xenophobia and violence.

“The fact is that the SAPS is riddled with corruption and ineptitude and does not have enough boots on the ground to address the myriad of problems that our communities face on a daily basis.”

She urged Home Affairs to ensure the quick and correct processing of visas and other documentation.

This also follows the Dudula Movement leader, Ntlantla Lux Mohlauhi (35) appearing in the Roodepoort magistrate’s court for an alleged Soweto house raid that occurred this month.

He was granted bail of R1 500.

Mohlauhi faces charges of housebreaking with intent to steal, as well as malicious injury to property.

“The accused was arrested on March 24, 2022 following a complaint that was registered with Dobsonville SAPS, alleging that members of Dudula Movement descended at the complainant’s house in Dobsonville on March 20, in search for drugs,” said NPA Gauteng Local Division Regional spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.

NPA Linda Duma did not oppose bail but requested that the court set certain conditions such as that the accused be ordered not to make any contact with the complainant and that he surrender his passport, said Mjonondwane.

She said the court attached conditions as per the state’s request and added a further condition, that the accused is confined within the Gauteng province.

The case was postponed to May 27 for further investigations.
