WATCH: Video of theft out of vehicle has motorists worried

Despite the motorist having locked the car and checked the doors on the right side, the suspects were able to gain entrance into the car by opening the left passenger door slightly.

A video gone viral, showing a suspected theft out of a motor vehicle with suspects using a passenger door trick to gain access to the vehicle, has motorists worried.

In the video making rounds on social media this week, an unsuspecting motorist parked at a garage in Lynnwood, Pretoria can be seen climbing out of the car and within seconds a suspect from a white VW Polo sedan parked next to it opens the left passenger door slightly.

A few seconds later, the motorist walks to his boot and thereafter locks the car and checks the front and the right side passenger door. Both doors seems to be locked.

The motorist walks away from the car towards the garage shops.

After 20 seconds a man from the white Polo can be seen climbing out of the car and opening the passenger door and taking out belongings from the motorist’s car before driving away.

On social media, some initially thought the suspected theft out of a vehicle was done through car jamming technique, while others shared similar videos of theft out of car tricks on social media.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Tuesday the Sinoville police arrested three suspects for vehicle theft-related crimes.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the trio were arrested for being in possession of car-breaking implements and contravention of the Electronics Communication Act.

“Officers of Sinoville SAPS were busy with vehicle patrols when a suspicious VW Polo were noticed driving around in the neighbourhoods.

“The officers searched the vehicle and found number plates as well as electronic items.

“They tried to call for assistance on the police radio and found the radio not working. They then tried to phone from their cellphones and also found that the cellphones had no signal. The officers realised that the signals were being jammed and the suspects had electronic signal jammers.”

Van Dyk said further investigations would continue to establish the suspects’ involvement in other theft out of motor vehicles.
