Man accused of killing two Bronkhorstspruit friends appears in court.
Friends, Kagiso Rampou and Convencey Twala were brutally killed in 2019 when a group of armed men ambushed them and their friends in Zithobeni.
A 32-year-old man believed to be involved in the murder of two well-known Bronkhorstspruit friends, appeared briefly in court on Thursday.
The matter was remanded to April 14 for the accused to acquire legal representation.
The man, whose name cannot be revealed due to investigations, was allegedly linked to a 2019 shooting that led to the death of Kagiso Rampou and Convencey Twala, leaving one other person badly injured.
On the fateful day, the group of friends and business partners were at Twala’s house in Zithobeni when a group of armed men ambushed them.
Nothing was taken from any of the victims, leaving many to speculate that it may have been a hit.
After a three year long search, the man believed to have been part of the group of shooters, was apprehended at a Burgersfort hostel a week ago.
He faces a charge of murder as well as attempted murder.
Outside court, members of the ANC youth league, friends and members of the community staged a protest calling for justice to be served.
Friend to one of the deceased, Dineo Siko told Rekord that the breakthrough in the case would help bring closure to many.
“As slow as the wheels of justice are, we are grateful that at least, finally there is a breakthrough in the case,” she said.
“Unanswered questions would be why they did this, who sent them to do such a heinous crime.
“We will all have peace if we get answers. It is evident that this crime was not only committed by him, other people are involved and we want them to also face the might of the law.”
Siko said they were calling for life imprisonment and that the community would continue supporting the two families.
“We are calling for life imprisonment with no possibility of parole. And that he be denied bail.
“The parents, friends and families are living life without the two people, so why should they be given the opportunity to also live their lives outside?”
