Police launch search for alleged business robbers

One of their accomplices was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, shortly after the armed business robbery.

Police were searching for two alleged business robbers in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria.

“Police have launched a manhunt for two suspects who are on the run,” spokesperson Constable Nhlanhla Zondi said.

This was after the two and one other accomplice allegedly robbed a tuck shop in Block M at around 01:00, in the early hours of Thursday, March 31.

The armed trio then fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Caddy.

“The crime was reported to the police, a case docket was opened and a preliminary investigation took place,” he said.

“Investigations took place and led to the arrest of a 29-year-old male,” he said.

The man was arrested at his place of residence in Mabopane, hours later, around 03:45.

He was found with stolen cigarettes, cellphones and packs of snuff.

“The suspect was questioned and led the police to the vehicle which was used to commit the crime,” Zondi said.

The vehicle was found in Block M and was subsequently impounded by the police for further investigation.

“The stolen items were also booked in as evidence by the police,” he said.

Those with information pertaining to the two people police were searching for were urged to contact the police on 082 828 6049 or by using the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.

On Tuesday, Soshanguve police seized a vehicle they found with false number plates when they followed up after receiving a complaint.
