Bakery truck driver’s killers sentenced
The truck driver who was delivering bread at a tuck shop in Block GG, Soshanguve, was stabbed, robbed off his cellphone and money.
Three men who stabbed the driver of a delivery truck in the upper leg, robbed him and left him to die, have finally been sentenced.
Rietgat police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka said all the accused were residents of Soshanguve block JJ and block LL.
“The main accused, Lindakuhle Mangali (27) was sentenced to 15 years for culpable homicide and five years for robbery with aggravating circumstances. His two co-accused Simon Ngobeni (35) was sentenced to 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances and Kgothatso Netshozwi (19) was handed a five-year jail term for robbery with aggravating circumstances.”
He said the three attacked the driver as he was delivering bread at a tuck shop in block GG, Soshanguve, on March 30, 2020, and
stabbed him before taking his cellphone and cash, and fleeing.
“The driver later died on the scene as a result of the stabbing. A thorough and meticulous investigation that led to the arrest of the trio was conducted by Sergeant Vusi Thobela who tirelessly put all the puzzles together for the conviction,” said Maluleka.
The Rietgat SAPS station commander Brigadier Molatelo Maphoto commended Thobela for sterling work.
Maphoto welcomed the sentencing of the three on culpable homicide and robbery charges.
“I am very excited for the excellent work done by the investigating officer Thobela. He has proven his dedication throughout the investigation of this case until the last day of conviction. Thank you very much for getting rid of bad apples in our community. This is also a lesson to those who want to try their hand at crime, that crime does not pay,” Maphoto said.
“We also would like to thank the members of the community for their continued support in terms of tip-offs and the Gauteng North regional court for finalising the case so that the family of the victim could get closure.”
Maphoto further said the Rietgat SAPS also further assured the community that they were still going to close the net on all the suspects that are still at large.
The police are requesting members of the community who might have information that may lead to the arrest of wanted criminals to contact them on their Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or Rietgat SAPS 071 675 6250 or Brigadier Maphoto on 082 455 8236 or 012 432 7806/7 My SAPS App.
