Two security guards shot dead in Mnandi

“We put up a reward of R20 000 for any information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the murderers.”

Two security officers were shot dead in Centurion in the early hours of Wednesday, April 6.

Olievenhoutbosch police spokesperson Sergeant Pretty Mokadi said the complaint was received around 01:00.

She said because there were no witnesses, the number of suspects was unknown.

“The suspects stole two firearms that belonged to the security guards and it is currently unknown if anything else was stolen”.

Mokadi said no arrests have been made but investigations were underway.

Speaking to Rekord, owner of Scorpion Risk Services Riaan Erasmus said their control room received a call at about 00:00 alerting them about the shooting.

He said the incident happened while the officers were on duty guarding a church in Mnandi.

“When police arrived at the scene, the two security officers were unfortunately already dead.

“We put up a reward of R20 000 for any information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the murderers,” he said.

Erasmus said they suspected that the robbers’ motive was to steal the firearms from his security officers.

He added that he offered his condolences to the families of the victims and the security company will have a meeting with them on Thursday.

This is the second shooting where officers lost their lives in Centurion.

Over the weekend, Rekord reported about security officer Ronald Isaac Mokumo, who was killed in a gun battle with eight armed robbers in Clubview, Centurion.

Mokumo was shot by the robbers at the Spar when he went to enquire with the cashiers if everything was okay after a WhatsApp message was received from a community group.

Police urge anyone who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
