Police put the brakes on an armed duo who were allegedly planning a Centurion business robbery
Police spokesperson constable Tumisang Moloto said the police were following a trail of information received from a community member when they arrested two men who were found with unlicensed firearms.
Good interrelations between police officers and community members remain imperative in the police’s efforts to combat crime.
This was said by Erasmia police spokesperson Tumisang Moloto as a tip-off came in handy to Centurion-based police when it led to officers arresting an armed duo believed to have been on their way to commit an armed business robbery in Laezonia on Thursday.
Moloto said the police arrested two men, aged 25 and 35, after tracking the suspects when they received information that the men were allegedly conspiring to commit a crime in Laezonia.
Moloto said the information led the Police to a petrol station on the R511.
“A vehicle similar to the description in the information received was spotted parked at the garage and the officers kept observation on the suspect’s movements. At the garage, the driving suspect went to pick up the second guy before driving to a place to allegedly commit a planned business robbery,” he said.

When the men drove out of the garage, the police stopped them and searched the vehicle. Two unlicensed firearms were found.
“The two men are expected to appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on Monday April 11 to face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and conspiracy to commit a crime,” Moloto said.
He added that further investigation would be conducted to determine if the suspects could be linked to other crimes.
“The possibilities of more charges being added cannot be ruled out but this will depend on the result of our investigations,” he said.

Moloto added that while the area faced the challenge of a few residential robberies in the past weeks the police had channelled resources to work hard at eradicating crime in the area.
“This has been and will continue to be possible through the help of community members and the security companies we work with,” he said.
“When combating crime it remains important for us to work with our community stakeholders in the pursuit of ensuring safe communities. Even in this case we received the information through a community member.”
