Garsfontein police, Tracker successfully trace suspects
Four people were arrested in Sunnyside following two business robbery incidents in the Garsfontein area.
Four people – two men and two women – were arrested following two business robberies in Garsfontein.
The group’s ages ranged between 30 and 43.
“Garsfontein SAPS, with the assistance of Tracker and a private security company, traced the suspects to a flat in Sunnyside,” police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said.
Two vehicles used in the commission of the crimes and had multiple car registration plates were also confiscated, along with break-in implements, gloves and other items.
The vehicles were a Toyota Corolla and Daihatsu Sirion.
More than 400 people were arrested during operations conducted by police and other law enforcement agencies in the Tshwane district over the weekend.
“These operations were held from Friday to the early hours of Sunday,” Selepe said.
During the tracing of wanted persons, the Tshwane detectives team arrested 279 people for various crimes, including 77 people for gender-based violence-related crimes and murder.
“Furthermore, 27 unlicensed liquor outlets were shut down – 17 in the north, six in Mamelodi East, two in Pretoria Central and one in the west corridors.
In another high-density operation in Loate, Rietgat and Soshanguve, more than 53 people were arrested.
Of them, 23 faced charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The people who were arrested faced charges of sexual offences, business robberies, theft of motor vehicles, housebreaking, common robbery, malicious damage to property, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, contravention of the Road Traffic Act, possession of suspected stolen goods, murder, reckless driving, attempted business robbery, contravention of a protection order, common assault, dealing in liquor without a licence, shoplifting, carjacking and attempted murder.
Others faced drug-crime related charges and undocumented persons were arrested as well.
“Tshwane SAPS management would like to thank law enforcement agencies including the Gauteng Traffic Police, Tshwane metro police department, Tracker, the correctional services and home affairs departments and CPFs for their continuous collaboration in the fight against crime,” Selepe said.
