Dark days for Maritimo

“We will fight for what we want to achieve - come hell or high water,” says head coach Selby “Sfuba” Sihlangu.

Uncertainties mounted over Maritimo’s dream to complete the Safa Tshwane Regional League soccer season in the top four of the log standings.

This was after the Hatfield outfit performed dismally in their last two matches. Mike One Stars thrashed them 5-0 three weeks ago.

In their latest match, they suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Tshwane South College two weeks ago. They, however, could not play last weekend as regional league games were put on hold.

This was because the league went on a recess last weekend for the Easter holidays. Games were, therefore, scheduled to resume this coming weekend.

The two losses had a major impact on Maritimo’s performance on the log standings as they dropped from position six to eight. They currently have the same 31 points each with Touch FC, who is at the one spot ahead of them because of a goal difference in their favour.

Although Maritimo’s boys were left with five games to play before the end of the season. Head coach Selby “Sfuba” Sihlangu was however still adamant that his team will complete the league season in the top four and that the remaining matches are enough to meet their objective.

“Five games left are enough for us to make it into the top four,” Sihlangu said.

He said he understood that their opponents now improved their performances when playing against his side, saying that this was because they viewed the Hatfield outfit as a dangerous team in the league.

“Our opponents have opted to play for life and death when facing us, but we will never give up. In a fair play, we will fight for what we want to achieve come hell or high water.”

He said opponents understood his game plan now and he needed to change it.

“I cannot easily give up. I am not weak and will therefore fight to the end.”

Maritimo are now preparing for their match against Mountain Movers. The game is scheduled to take place at the Maritimo sports ground on Saturday at 15:00.
