Community keeps streets of Moreletapark clean

“Where there is a need, we try to get involved and help and restore our neighbourhood. We need all 16 000 houses on board.”

A voluntary organisation calling itself the Community Caring Forum (CCF) was taking service delivery into their own hands and cleaning up the streets of Moreletapark.

“Where there is a need, we try to get involved and help and restore our neighbourhood. We need all 16 000 houses on board,” said Deirdré van Helsdingen, the managing director of CCF.

Streets that were cleaned up recently include Rubenstein Drive, Blouhaak Road, Van Bergen Street and Garsfontein Road.

In addition to the roads, CCF was cleaning up the sidewalks to ensure pedestrians’ safety as well.

The clean-up initiative entailed cutting down overgrown grass to make manholes and fire hydrants visible. The fire hydrants were also marked so that residents know where to go in case of an emergency.

Residents have lauded CCF’s efforts for ensuring that the suburb is tidy and seamless to drive through.

The organisation was started in 2019, after a lack of service delivery for years from the metro

Since then, residents have contributed to the initiative and the community is servicing themselves as much as they can.

“Ideally, we would love it if the metro can fund us a bit or just give us a discount.

“We are making a difference and we aim to make an even bigger difference,” said Van Helsdingen.
