Community comes together to clean Olievenhoutbosch
Members of the Hatfield-based church worked in partnership with the Tshwane metro to help clean the area which has suffered from frequent dumping.
The World Mission Society Church of God (ASEZ WAO) reached out to the residents of Olievenhoutbosch on Sunday when they helped clear out the many dumping sites in the area.
ASEZ WAO is an international volunteer service group that consists of the World Mission Society Church of God with young adult volunteers from 7 500 churches in 175 countries.
Members of the Hatfield-based church worked in partnership with the Tshwane metro to help clean the area which has suffered from frequent dumping.
Dozens of eager church members volunteered to clean the area and they were able to collect 1 700 bags of litter by the end of the day.
Church member Eugene Mbuyane said he was very pleased with how the day went.
“Our members worked extremely hard and we showed this community that we care about them.
“The community also responded well. Many people drove by and cheered us on, some even jumped in to help the team,” he said.
Mbuyane said he and fellow members of his church wanted to make a change in South Africa.
“We plan to contribute to making improvements by taking care of our neighbours and communities with young adults’ passion and positive energy, and participating in environmental protection activities,” he said.

Ward councillor Sean Cox was present at the clean-up on Sunday.
“It was a major effort from everyone and they made excellent progress.
“The City of Tshwane worked together with the church, providing them with plastic bags and the trucks they needed as well.
“This community faces many problems with dump sites, which is a problem that’s hard to solve.
“Regardless, a clean-up is always a very positive thing to see, especially when people from different backgrounds work together,” said Cox.
The church hoped to reach out to more communities in need in the Gauteng area soon.
In addition to helping clean the environment, the church also offers various donation services.
“We put into practice giving love to all mankind, as God says, ‘Love your neighbours as yourself’,” said Mbuyane.
