Organisations keeps community warm with donated blankets
“These organisations endeavour to bring a little comfort and warmth into the lives and hearts of children.”
Pretoria residents can stay warmer this winter after Unchain Our Children (UOC) donated blankets to the needy.
UOC public liaison officer Linette Lintvelt said families are suffering and need the community’s support for living essentials.
“During winter, there is a great need for blankets, especially for children,” she said.
“Many families lost their income, homelessness is on the increase, and abuse against children as well as gender-based violence is peaking at the highest rate ever.
“These combined factors cause huge suffering for children.”
Lintvelt said the project was the brainchild of UOC executive director Wayne van Onselen.
“The organisation endeavours to contribute towards the comfort of children. Wayne coined the phrase, ‘Everyone is someone’s child’ and his dedication towards the well-being of children is tremendous.”
UOC is a non-profit organisation against child prostitution, child abuse, and other violations of human rights.
“We operate by means of direct intervention, recovery of missing and exploited children, counselling of individuals at risk and conducting initiatives to lower the current occurring incidences of abuse and exploitation.”
Lintvelt said they partnered with other childcare organisations in making this drive a success.
“We share this drive with partner organisations that have similar goals and are in the best interests of children.
Lintvelt said these organisations endeavour to bring a little comfort and warmth into the lives and hearts of children.
“With strong working relationships developing between several childcare organisations, our reach is stronger and our response quicker to an immediate need but providing living essentials like food, blankets and clothes to children is not our core activity.”
Lintvelt said one of the partner organisations that shares their goal of caring for children is SA Cares for Life.
“We deeply value SA Cares for Life’s generous donation of much needed blankets which will comfort children during the chilly winter nights.”
Lintvelt said the speed with which requests for children’s needs are met by like-minded organisations is astonishing.
She thanked MD of SA Cares Sanet Fagan for her promptly response to the call for help.
She said the organisation donates to the needy around the country and plans to continue in the future.
