Organisers postpone home-schooling learners’ event after rain
The Gauteng Home-schooling Kaskar Day event organisers have postponed the occasion to prevent participants from damaging the wet Wilgers High School’s sports field after rain.
The first Gauteng Home-schooling Kaskar Day event was postponed owing to the rainy weather conditions in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The event, initially scheduled to take place on Saturday at the Wilgers High School in the east of Pretoria, has been rescheduled for July 9 at the same venue.
“We are sorry to announce that the Kaskar Day event will no longer take place today due to heavy rains since around 1:00 am today,” one of the organisers of the event, Jean Swanepoel, told Rekord.
Swanepoel said postponing the event was important in order to save the school’s sports field from being damaged by the participants as it was still wet and muddy.
She said the postponement was, however, a blessing in disguise as more people were interested in attending the upcoming event.
“We are expecting more than one thousand people to attend including home-schooling learners, their parents and friends.”
The event, organised by four parents including Eben and his spouse Michelle Steyn and Jean and her husband Etienne Swanepoel, is planned to provide home-schooling learners with an opportunity to meet and play with fellow learners from all over Gauteng province.
“Home-schooling learners do not attend normal school classes where they can meet and play with a lot of children. Events of this nature, therefore, provide them with an opportunity to physically interact and play with others.”
According to Swanepoel, plans to hold the event annually were underway, adding that they wanted to accommodate adults as well to ensure that it would be a suitable event for the entire family.
