Tow truck protest slows down traffic on the N1 South

Tow trucks have slowed down traffic on the N1 southbound in Centurion in a bid to have their demands met by the Automobile Association (AA).

A protest by members of the South African Towing Repair Transformation Board has slowed down traffic on the N1 southbound in Centurion on Wednesday morning.

The protest was in the form of a motorcade whereby multiple tow trucks slowed down operations on the N1 road, demanding fair rates and fair work distribution from the Automobile Association (AA), said TPMD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

The protest is currently still affecting traffic on the N1 southbound as motorists are reporting on social media.

Motorists are advised to avoid the road and use alternative routes to reach their destinations as delays could be expected.

Mahamba said the tow trucks gathered at the corner of Lenchen Avenue and John Vorster Drive in Centurion and began the motorcade from 08:00.

He said the protestors proceeded with the motorcade on the N1 southbound until they reached Samrand Road where the TMPD officers handed them over to JMPD.

He added that TMPD officers are still on the N1 southbound road to monitor the road and ensure that control is maintained.
