70 people evicted from CBD building
The City has consistently taken a zero-tolerance approach to building and land invasion.
Tshwane metro executed an eviction order at the Foley and Law Building last Sunday, following an illegal invasion by approximately 70 people more than two years ago.
The building is owned by the metro and is situated in the Pretoria CBD.
Tshwane mayor Randall Williams said a multidisciplinary team, with the sheriff and attorneys, executed the eviction order against individuals who had unlawfully occupied the building.
“The eviction order was obtained around the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in late 2019 and, as such, it could not be executed owing to the regulations at the time.
“The building has since been handed over to new commercial tenants who have provided their own security and fencing to ensure that the property is not invaded again.
“The tenants have entered into a lease agreement with the City through the Group Property policy process, he said.
Williams said the City has consistently taken a zero-tolerance approach to building and land invasions.
“And it will continue to support the implementation of eviction orders against individuals who unlawfully occupy City-owned buildings and public land in all areas of the municipality.”
To report land invasions, the public can contact the Tshwane metro police department on a 24/7 basis at 012 358 7095/7096.
