Dog found after being missing for four days
Sofia was very dehydrated and malnourished, but was soon nursed back to health.

Juliet Meyer needed all the help she could get to track down her beloved dog Sofia who had gone missing for four days.
Sofia, a ten-month-old Italian Greyhound, went missing on June 19 after escaping from a vet in Erasmia where she was being treated for a fever.
Meyer said when she was told her dog had disappeared into a nearby veld at16:30, she had immediately jumped in her car to go look for the missing dog.
“We searched the veld and called her name for hours,” said Meyer.
“My sister and her husband were also there to help us.
“We searched until 22:00 in pitch darkness but there was no trace of her and we all went home very disappointed and worried.”
Meyer posted on Facebook that Sofia was wearing a blue jersey, and still had a drip connected to her body.
There was a glimmer of hope when she got a call from a nearby informal settlement.

Residents believed they had seen Sofia and even sent the family a video of a dog that looked very similar.
“We drove up and met with them, but were very disappointed when we saw it was not Sofia,” said Meyer.
Never giving up hope, Meyer, along with family and friends, handed out leaflets with Sofia’s photo and a contact number with a promise of a R1 000 reward to the person who found her.
They also posted widely on social media.
Eventually, it was her sister, Bianca Will, who found Sofia on Thursday after searching for her on her own for five hours.
“She took the day off and went into the veld with a security guard and she searched the whole day.
“She never gave up hope for a second and I’m so thankful for her.
“I don’t even want to think about what would have happened if it wasn’t for her.
“She is an angel and my hero,” said Meyer proudly.
Sofia was dehydrated and malnourished when she was found and was taken for immediate medical care.

She, however, recovered quickly and soon gained all the weight she lost in the time that she was missing.
Meyer thanked everyone involved in the search, as well as Dr Janine Grobler who helped nurse Sofia back to health.
“Sofia’s back to her old self and we are just very glad to have her back with us,” said Meyer.
