Feedback meeting for unemployed youth

The feedback meeting comes after both Ford South Africa and Tasz met the seven days deadline.

A Tshwane organisation has invites the residents who recently marched on car manufacturers demanding jobs to a feedback meeting on July 2.

Tshwane Bahlali Dudula Action led a march by unemployed residents of Mamelodi, Nellmapius and Eersterust to hand over memorandums of demand to Tshwane Automotive Special Zone (TASZ) and Ford South Africa on June 14.

Organisation representative Khutso “Smesh” Semetjane said the leaders of the march subsequently met Ford SA representative on June 22 and Tasz representatives on June 24

He said both car makers had responded to the memorandums hence the organisation was inviting residents to inform they what had transpired in those two meetings.

He said the first feedback meeting would be at Nellmapius sports ground near the taxi rank at 15:00 on July 2.

Record reported that thousands of unemployed locals peacefully marched to Ford and Tasz demanding jobs on June 14.

The protesters held aloft their CVs and handed their memorandum of demands to representatives of the two companies, insisting it was about time the companies started looking out for the locals and stopped hiring people who are not from the area,” Smesh was quoted as saying.

“Our demands were very simple: jobs must be prioritised for the locals.”

He said they wanted to raise awareness that while the community suffered high unemployment, the automotive companies operating within their vicinity were not doing any community development or contributing to the reduction of unemployment.

“The issues that they will discuss on the feedback meeting are the immediate setting up of a collaboration desk that will be formed by Ford SA and Tasz, Mamelodi, Nellmapius and Eersterust stakeholder representatives,” said Smesh.

He said the second and third meetings will be at Rethabile sports ground in Mamelodi East at 11:00 and Eersterust open ground next to Nantes Primary school at 15:00 on July 3 respectively.
