The franchise that brought a new world of celebrity boxing to both the national and international fan base in early 2021 is growing and needs a stadium to house its third instalment.

Boxop 1 was headlined by a fight between rock royalty Francois van Coke and former Blue Bulls flyhalf, Derick Hougaard. After an intense build-up and non-stop speculation about the outcome, Van Coke was crowned champion.

Burger, in the blue corner, chose non-profit organisation, Yellow for Survivors, which was established to provide survivors of rape and gender-based violence with resources to find the support they need for healing after severe, life-changing experiences.

Each organisation will receive 50% of ticket sales.

“I am sick and tired to see women and children suffering due to financial abuse,” said Gerber at the official media launch on Tuesday.

“It is something that I am passionate about and it has angered me to a level where I am going to fight. Tasché and I are fighting for the same cause.”

Burger said that “an existence without equality is an existence without dignity”.

“It has been a hectic few months in terms of my training schedule, but I am super excited about the event and looking forward to facing Angelique.”

A massive line-up featuring some of South Africa’s biggest musicians and bands such as Francois van Coke, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Early B, Brendan Peyper, Refentse, Janie Bay, Kurt Darren, Rubber Duc, Synth Peter, Posduif, Jan Bloukaas and Sunset Sweatshop will get the crowds on their feet before the great showdown.
